A rice wine making workshop

Some days before,
Emil and I attended a workshop
which teaching how to make traditional rice wine
in a country side located in New territories.
A little bit hot weather but we were excited for this.

My mother had been making this when I was a small kid
but unfortunately I was too small to try her rice wine
and a mother-made rice wine could only be one of my memories now…
and will be a new memory which I made our new rice wine with my husband Emil.

There is a couple who are expert about making rice wine
and live in a country side that I had never been or heard before.
They sometimes pick things people throw away to make for their new household items.

This is one of their inventions.
2 washing machine basins made cooking stove.

After looked around his house we got back to our workshop and the tutorial start.

Ingredients are:
Glutinous rice
Wine yeast
Chinese yeast ball
Cylinder glasses bottle (must be cylinder)

White rice and glutinous rice.
Put them together so we can notice the difference.

Cook glutinous rice first.

Chinese yeast ball

Wine yeast,
wet, washed by rice wine.

Ummm... I already forgot the details about how to make it;
it is a quite complicated thing for a cooking junior like me,
but we enjoyed a day escaped out of the cities.

There were a farm close by,
a farmer was working there,
we went to say hi to him
(this was my first time seeing a real farmer in Hong Kong).
The plant standing there were peach blossom,
he said it was planted a year ago and it needs 3 years to blossom.

We should show our respect to farmers.

Now the rice is ready for putting into the bottles.
Then all we have to do is wait.

And this workshop ends with a Chinese tea.
